Gimpy Globetrotter on the Great Wall of China

Hello

Mike McHugh, also known as Gimpy Globetrotter was born with a disease called arthrogryposis. This disease essentially means that his tendons are shriveled and he is unable to gain any muscle mass below his knees. He doesn't let that stop him, though!

My Story

When I was born the doctor told my parents that I would never play football, but most people don't play football. This was my doctor's way of telling my parents that I would be just fine, not to hold me back & let me set my own limits.

This evolved into my personal motto - the only limits you have are the ones you set for yourself.

During my time as a student at Penn State University, I took advantage of an opportunity to study abroad for a semester in Rome. It was during that four month term that the travel bug bit! Over the course of those four months, I traveled to over 10 countries & 30 cities. I enjoyed the sites, sounds, food & people I encountered along the way. I blogged about my journeys for my school and, thus, Gimpy Globetrotter was born,

After graduation, I went back over to Europe to travel for six weeks across the continent - to places I wanted to return to and places that were on my list. It was this backpacking trip that solidified my passion for travel. I encountered many travelers along the way from around the world and knew that this is something I want to continue doing as much as I can.

Over the past 12 years, I have traveled the world and have now been to over fifty countries across all seven continents.

I hope you enjoy this blog and it inspires you to travel - whether it is around your town or all over the world.
