Hi All!
It’s been a little over a month since my last update, but my bags are packed & I leave early tomorrow morning for a trip that has been on my bucket list before I even knew what a bucket list was – a trip to Alaska to see the Northern Lights! It will be my second time in Alaska – my family took a cruise in 2011 from Seattle to Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and the Tracy Arm Fjord and had an absolutely amazing time.
With my Dad as a travel buddy, I have a flight from JFK Airport in New York to Anchorage with a short connection in Seattle. The next day will be our first & only full day in Anchorage, so we will take a city tour and try to see as much of the city as possible! The following morning, we have a 12 hour narrated train ride on the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Fairbanks. Upon our arrival in Fairbanks, we will have our first shot at seeing the Northern Lights on a tour to Murphy’s Dome! Over the next 5 days, we have a city tour of Fairbanks which includes a stop at North Pole, Alaska, another tour which will take us to Chena Hot Springs, a third tour that includes a flight north of the Arctic Circle to Coldfoot, ice fishing, dog sledding and Northern Lights viewing tours every night.
I cannot wait to experience Alaska in the winter & to see all the beauty it has to offer. I will try to update my blog frequently, but remember to follow me on Instagram at @gimpyglobetrotter for pictures of our adventure!
